Not so long ago, Katrina had talked about signing Bharat and she was quoted as saying, "Ali Abbas Zafar is a very dear friend of mine. We have worked together first in 'Mere Brother Ki Dulhan' and then we did 'Tiger Zinda Hai'. Both of the films were extremely successful and more importantly, they were experiences which for me were wonderful and I really enjoyed working with him.

When he contacted me, he said Katrina... he calls me Goldfish. He said, 'Goldfish, I'm gonna send you a script. Just react to me and tell me what you think.' I read the script and I thought it was an absolutely wonderful script. I was extremely excited about the character and very happy to be part of the film."
