Bump
into
most
producers
these
days
and
you'd
hear
that
they
are
either
remaking
a
yesteryear
hit
or
making
a
sequel
of
an
immensely
successful
film.
The
latest
is,
Suniel
Shetty
and
Shabbir
Boxwala
[producer
of
Yun
Hota
To
Kya
Hota?]
have
joined
hands
to
remake
Gulshan
Rai's
blockbuster
hit
Johny
Mera
Naam,
which
starred
the
evergreen
Dev
Anand
in
the
title
role
and
was
directed
by
Vijay
Anand.
If
trustworthy
sources
are
to
be
believed,
Suniel
and
Shabbir
have
roped
in
David
Dhawan
to
direct
the
remake,
while
talks
are
on
with
Abhishek
Bachchan
to
step
into
Dev
Anand's
shoes.
If
the
project
materializes,
it'll
be
the
first
time
David
and
Abhishek
will
be
working
together.
"What's
true
is
that
Suniel
and
I
have
joined
hands
and
have
also
signed
David
to
direct
a
film.
We
are
keen
to
remake
Johny
Mera
Naam,
but
we
haven't
acquired
the
rights
of
the
film
yet.
Rajiv
Rai
[Gulshan
Rai's
son,
who
holds
the
rights
of
the
smash
hit]
is
in
Los
Angeles
at
the
moment
and
it
all
depends
on
whether
or
not
he
wishes
to
part
with
the
rights," Shabbir
enlightens
me.
Is
it
true
that
Abhishek
is
tipped
to
enact
the
title
role?
"Like
I
said,
things
will
fall
in
place
once
Rajiv
returns
to
India.
He
is
expected
back
by
this
month-end.
But
the
moment
we
acquire
the
remaking
rights,
we'll
take
it
forward.
As
of
now,
things
are
still
in
the
preliminary
stages,"
he
adds.
