While
Hollywood
makes
fortunes
with
its
animation
films,
we
have
totally
ignored
that
genre.
Our
animation
film
Hanuman,
though
quite
successful,
was
not
a
patch
on
the
quality
of
a
Shrek
or
a
Lion
King.
But
now
the
trend
might
be
changing
as
Bollywood
too
wakes
up
to
the
fact
that
animation
films
can
be
dubbed
into
various
languages
and
so
command
markets
not
limited
by
national
boundaries.
Among the first to think up the idea of remaking his successful feature film into an animation film was Karan Johar. He announced plans to make Kuch Kuch Hota Hai into Kuchi Kuchi Hota Hai.
Even while Adlabs are casting their nets overseas to get into mainstream animation films, Pritish Nandy Communications has signed a US $25 million co-production deal with Florida based Motion Pixel Corportaion, to make 5 full-length animation features, based on PNC's earlier production ventures like Pyaar Ke Side Effects, Ek Khiladi Ek Hasina and Jhankaar Beats.
Incidently, animation films normally target children , but PNC's offerings will have adult content.
