Farah Khan"s Om Shanti Om and Sanjay Leela Bhansali"s Saawariya clash on-screen from today, but things appear to be hotting up off-screen as well. On Tuesday night, Bhansali gave the star-studded trial of Om Shanti Om a miss despite the special invite Shahrukh Khan extended to him.
A source says, "Things are indeed on collision course. Bhansali decided to hold the premiere of Saawariya a day earlier (on November 7) knowing that Om Shanti Om's premiere was on November 8 at the Empire theatre atLeicester Square in London.
Before leaving for England, SRK held a trial of OSO at the Yash Raj Studios that was attended by the who"s who of B-Town. Shahrukh made it a point to call everyone personally including Bhansali.
He promised Shahrukh that he would let him know via SMS or a phone call which trial he would attend as there were two shows — at 6 pm and 9 pm. But Bhansali didn"t bother to inform nor did he turn up."
Reportedly Bhansali has said, “I haven"t yet seen Main Hoon Naa or Chak De! India because I was busy with Black and then Saawariya. Frankly, I wasn"t excited enough to watch those films. To tell you the truth, I"m not excited enough… I don"t want to see Om Shanti Om."
Pick up the phone
A source close to Farah says, “Bhansali has been making digs about SRK"s six-pack abs to the media. He might not have wanted to watch OSO but he wanted Farah to watch Saawariya. On Wednesday afternoon, he called up Farah thrice but she was unable to take the call at that time as she was asleep due to ill-health.
One of Bhansali"s assistants even SMSed her to take his call saying that Bhansali was trying to get in touch with her. By the time Farah could revert it was too late. Moreover, she was a tad upset and didn"t want to reply to Bhansali"s call. She felt that when everyone had been sent out invites earlier, why was she being asked to come for the 9 pm premiere at 4 pm the same day!"
It wasn"t me!
Farah was unavailable for comment but a source close to Bhansali says, “Sanjay didn"t go for the Om Shanti Om trial as he was running around for his own Saawariya premiere to be held the next day."
As for making those calls to Farah, the source adds, “Sanjay didn"t get in touch with Farah nor did he call her."
So will both the filmmakers watch each other"s projects? Only time will tell.
