Chetan Anand's documentary to be launched in Delhi

New Delhi (UNI): Chetan Anand's film Haqeeqat, made during the turbulent 60s when India went through a grueling conflict with China, infused a feeling of patriotism among Indians through its brilliant depiction of the situation of the country's soldiers on the borders.

Whenever one remembers the veteran filmmaker Chetan Anand, images of his films like Haqeeqat flash across one's mind.

For a film made in the earlier half of the sixties, it showed remarkable use of technology and grit to depict the situation of the Indian soldiers fighting the Chinese army.

Ten years after the death of Anand, who first took India to the overseas market when his very first directorial venture, Neecha Nagar won the Grand Prix at the Cannes International Film Festival in 1946, a docu-drama on the life of the brilliant filmmaker will be launched in the capital on Friday.

Titled Chetan Anand - The Poetics of Film, the film is a rare tribute to the film maker who died at the age of 82 on July 6, 1997.

The film is about the contribution of the filmmaker to Hindi film industry.This short film traverses through Chetan Anand's work along with a look at his inner self. It showcases scenes from his films, his rare photographs and inputs from friends, family and colleagues. The narration in the film is by Tom Alter. This film was shot on video format and then blown up to 35mm.

Produced by his son Ketan Anand - a well-known filmmaker in his own right -Chetan Anand - The Poetics of Film has been written by Ketan himself in collaboration with his mother Uma Anand, a noted writer of films like 'Taxi Driver'and actress of her own times. The Associate Producer of this film is Vani Tripathi and was produced under the banner of Himalaya Films.
