A lot in store for IIFA 2007

The countdown for the most coveted I.I.F.A. Awards has begun. We at IndiaFM bring you details on those participating and performing at the event. IIFA awards, which are to be held from the 7- 9 June, in Yorkshire is going to be a gala affair. Apart from some of the biggest stars performing, the 7th of June will also see the Leeds Metropolitan University confer honorary doctorate on Mr. Praful Patel, Minister of civil aviation, renowned director Yash Chopra and noted actress and social activist, Shabana Azmi.

Performing live at the IDEA IIFA Awards 2007 this year will be Abhishek Bachchan, Salman Khan, Govinda, Shilpa Shetty, Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Bipasha Basu, Emraan Hashmi, Aftab Shivdasani and Raima Sen, choreographed to perfection by Shaimak Davar. Also, Shilpa Shetty will be performing live for the U.K. audience for the first time after her Big Brother success.

And if this wasn't enough, Hosts Boman Irani and Lara Dutta promise to keep everyone in splits with their wit as the hosts for the evening. Karan Johar will host the special awards section. Meanwhile, The Train will be premiered in Yorkshire at Cineworld Castleford on 7th June. On the occasion of India celebrating 60 years of its independence, Leeds wishes to commemorate India's struggle of freedom by honouring prominent Indian personalities who have contributed to the emergence of India as a fast developing, economically strong, cinema-proud nation.

The IIFA awards will also see Indian film luminaries Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, and filmmakers Deepa Mehta and Rituparno Ghosh inaugurate the IIFA Exhibition, to coincide with the IIFA weekend.

Bollywood stars including Abhishek Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan, Anil Kapoor, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Fardeen Khan and Zayed Khan along with TV presenter Nick Knowles, former cricketers Kapil Dev and Ajay Jadeja and singer Jay Sean will participate in a celebrity cricket match which will take place at Headingley Carnegie Stadium, Leeds for IIFA.

Renowned umpire Dickie Bird will make a welcomed comeback from retirement to umpire the match. Other stars Shilpa Shetty and Salman Khan will open the match with the Toss-up, while fellow stars Preity Zinta, Urmila Matondkar, Chunky Pandey and Boman Irani will provide commentary for the match.
