Its not very often that you get to see Bollywood hotshots rub shoulders with Hollywood hotshots. Amitabh Bachchan and none other than Johnny Depp are set to do an item number in Mira Nair's new film Shantaram. And they will be dancing to the tune of none other that director composer Vishal Bhardawaj.
What is so exciting is how the two will match up to each other. Johnny Depp, one Hollywood's best whom it will be virtually impossible to match up to after watching in play Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean, and Amitabh Bachchan, Bollywood's most well known international ambassador.
A major part of the song will be shot in the studio and not in outdoor locations. Depp is expected to arrive in India to shoot for the film sometime around December. He will be the seventh Hollywood star to come to India after the high profile visits of Angelina Jolie, Sienna Miller, Richard Gere, Will Smith, Brad Pitt and Liz Hurley. Surely he is the most revered among them all.
Amitabh Bachchan said that he was asked to block dates from Jan 2008 to March 2008. The veteran actor doesn't seem to want to hang up his boots. Despite being at an age when most actors take a backseat, he is seen in funky costumes and playing very modern non-conventional and glamourous roles. Surely he is at the prime of his career. But his growth has become a clichϿ'd one.
He used to be the ever-reverent Bollywood actor whom everybody wants to be like and whom everybody idolizes. Now he has arguably gone a level down, almost on the same level with most of his contemporaries. Maybe that is what has sustained him - still giving him roles as substantial as they come at 64 going on 65.
