When Rakesh Roshan saw Metro, he was floored by the film, especially by the work put in by writer-director Anurag Basu. Rakesh recounted how he had not even bothered to see Anurag's Gangster, when it first released, but when he saw that it was featuring extensively in award nominations, he had called for the film's DVD and watched Gangster. "It was very well-made and I had immediately called up Anurag and congratulated him."

So when Rakesh went to see Metro, his expectations were high and he is glad that Basu has more than lived up to the promise that he showed in Gangster. He did call up Anurag and Ronnie Screwvala of UTV to suggest that they should clip off the kissing scene between Dharmendra and Nafisa Ali, since the older generation may not take kindly to.
