Actors do offbeat things on and off screen but this time Piyush Mishra, who plays Huffy Bhai (Abhishek's partner in crime) in Jhoom Barabar Jhoom (JBJ), found himself writing poetry instead of dialogues for his role in JBJ.

Piyush has scripted dialogues and screenplay for films such as The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Yahaan and 1971. He also wrote the lyrics of Black Friday.

Piyush admitted writing shers and shayaris for his character and reciting them instead of his dialogues at various stages of the film. "It was an unusual experience for me. Though I am a writer and have written lyrics for Gulal and Black Friday, for JBJ I used shayaris as I play a very colourful character Hafeez Khan or Huffy bhai from Karachi while Abhishek plays Ricky. We are partners in crime and do everything together. I am like Abhishek's elder brother in the film. But after writing the shayaris in JBJ I realised that there are no shortcuts to acting and as actors we have to be flexible," he says.

"Haffy Bhai is 'aashiq mejaaz' and 'rangeen aadmi' who wears colorful costumes and also has a colourful language," Piyush adds.

But what made him write shayaris? "I was tired of acting in serious films like Matrubhoomi and Maqbool and getting tagged as a serious actor. In Maqbool I played Kaka. They offered the role of Haffy Bhai to Dharmendra and Pakistani actor Omar Shariff but for some reasons they couldn't do it. I had earlier acted in Dil Se so Shaad and I had formed a friendship. I got a call from him and during the first scene, he asked me to write a sher. I did that and then this continued for every scene. It became like a part of every dialogue. The shayaris are thoda hatke and they have colloquial words. Even in the climax scene with Amitabh Bachchan instead of dialogues I have had shayari," he reveals.

Life became tough for Piyush after that. "I had to write the shayaris on the spot. They would give me the scene and I would write the shers," he said.

Piyush who has earlier worked with Amitabh Bachchan in Dewar found both father and son very cooperative. "Bachchan saab ki baat hi kuch aur hai but Abhishek mein bhi sanskar toh wohi hai," he said.
