Maharashtra Govt. bans Deshdrohi

The Government of Maharashtra has banned the screening of the film Deshdrohi in the state for two months, fearing that its theme would bring about breakdown of law and order in the state. The Mumbai police had earlier expressed its concern to the state government on the film's release, as the situation in the state is very volatile following the recent attack on the North Indians by Maharashtra Navnirman Sen (MNS) activists.

Deshdrohi produced by Bhojpuri actor Kamaal Khan deals with the injustice and discrimination meted out to the North Indians in Mumbai. However, it has turned very controversial following the campaign started by MNS leader Raj Thackeray against the North Indians staying in Mumbai city.

Kamaal, who also plays the lead role in the film, said that the recent violence in Maharashtra was a just coincidence. It is said that the filmmaker is not happy with the move of the government and would approach the court.

This controversial film directed by Jagdish Sharma also features actors like Gracy Singh, Kim Sharma, Aman Verma, Ranjit, Kader Khan, Raza Murad, Avtaar Gill and Manoj Tiwari. It is set to hit the theatres tomorrow, that is November 14.
