The film starred him as Manikdas Guptha, a Newspaper owner, who was fondly called Nanaji and shared a love-hate relationship with his disciple (Abhishek Bachchan). Directed by Mani Rathnam, the film had released on 12th January 2007.
Now exactly a year later, he would be seen in a principal role once again as Father Briganza in the film My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves. To be released in a few days from now i.e. on 11th January, the film sees him play a guardian angel to the lead protagonist Anthony (Nikhil Dwivedi).
Directed by E Niwas, the film showcases a warm and endearing relationship between Anthony and Father Briganza. In fact, Mithun da's character is not only Anthony's father figure, he is also his moral guardian, who, in due course of time, helps him choose between right and wrong.
In between Guru and My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves, he was seen on the big screen but that was for a brief appearance in the song and dance number 'Deewangee' in Shahrukh Khan's Om Shanti Om. Incidentally, My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves also has a Shahrukh Khan connection as Red Chillies Entertainment is the Line Producer of the film.
2008 would see number of Mithun da films arriving on the silver screen. Apart from My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves, he would also be seen in the Bengali film Kaal Purush - Memories Of The Mist. Directed by Budhdev Das Gupta, the film also stars Rahul Bose and Sameera Reddy. Hansal Mehta directed RAAKH is also ready for release and features Sohail Khan, Amrita Arora and Eesha Koppikhar along with Aditya Srivastav.
Samir Karnik directed Heroes is an episodic biggie that is all set for a 1st May release. The film boasts of a mega star cast which includes Salman Khan, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Preity Zinta, Sohail Khan, Vatsal Sheth, Dino Morea, Amrita Arora and KRiya Sen along with Mithun da.
