Ramu makes a terrifying declaration

Trust Ram Gopal Varma to be ever so innovative, especially when it comes to the promotion of his films. Whether it is making digs at himself after his flops or coming up with quotable quotes after the success of his films, Ramu is never short of words.

One such instance can be witnessed in the latest set of Phoonk promos which have been unleashed in the weekend gone by. Though the latest series of horrifying promos manage to entice viewers all over again, what takes the cake is an open challenge from Ramu which proclaims - 'Will you dare to watch it'! If this is not all, the film now also boasts of an interesting caption which reads - 'A Terrifying Hit'.

Well, the film is indeed a hit, what with close to 7 crores already in it's kitty after being released at just around 200 prints in its first week. With a final total of 10 crores being a given, it won't be surprising if this 3 crores film goes on to gain a super hit box office status for itself.

However, it would be interesting to see how strong the film sustains from this weekend on since Rock On has taken a bumper opening for itself and is expected to net even more than what Phoonk did in its first week. Though Chamku and Mukhbiir have been washouts with dim chances of any shows being retained after a terrible first weekend, C Kkompany isn't doing well for itself either. This means that it is going to be a two way battle between Phoonk and Rock On even as oldies like Bachna Ae Haseeno and Singh Is Kinng continues to make an impression, though on a lower side.

One thing is for sure though, whatever be the final outcome of Phoonk (hit or superhit), Ram Gopal Varma is now the only director in 2008 who has seen 3 releases with two of them (Sarkar Raj, Phoonk) turning out to be money spinners at the box office.
