Racism forces Big B to turn down Oz honour

The issue of racial abuse against Indians in Australia hasn't gone unnoticed in the tinsel town. Bollywood celebrities are standing firmly behind their countrymen who have become victims of racism in the land down under. Aamir Khan had condemned the attacks in his blog and now superstar Amitabh Bachchan has rejected an honorary doctorate from the Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane.

The 66 years old star wrote on his blog “I mean no disrespect to the Institution that honours me, but under the present circumstances, where citizens of my own country are subjected to such acts of inhuman horror, my conscience does not permit me to accept this decoration from a country that perpetrates such indignity to my fellow countrymen."

The Queensland University was to confer the honour to Amitabh Bachchn in July for his contribution to the world of art and entertainment. Big B has however rejected the honour to show solidarity towards the thousands of Indians especially the student community residing in Australia.
