Defamation case against Slumdog Millionaire

By By: Subhadeep Bhattacharjee

Just days after Amitabh Bachchan blasted Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire saying it showed India in poor light the movie is part of a fresh controversy now. The General Secretary of the slum dweller's association has filed a defamation suit against music director A R Rahman and actor Anil Kapoor alleging the movie's title tags the people living in the slum as dogs.

Tapeshwar Vishwakarma who filed the case says that the movie has depicted the people living in the slum in bad taste and used derogatory terms against them. Vishwakarma argues that the use of the term dog in the movie is defamatory. The slum dwellers have approached the State and the National Human Rights Commission for necessary action to be taken against Rahman and Anil Kapoor.
