It seems Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan is building another empire in Germany. Following the successful premiere of Peepli Live at the 60th Berlin International Film Festival, Aamir has decided to release it simultaneously in India and Germany.

UTV pictures, the distributor of the film, has reached a deal with Rapid Eyes Movies for its release in August with German sub-titles. The German company has also bought the home video rights for the film.

Peepli Live director Anusha Rizvi said that they couldn't release the film early in India, as they had to go to the Sundance Film Festival. She added that it was a great honour for her film to be screened in the Berlinale Special section.

The film is about two farmers in an Indian village. On facing the risk of losing their land for failing to repay their bank credit, one of them decides to take his own life so that his family could claim support from the government. It features theatre actors who have never appeared before a camera and was shot in Badwai village, Madhya Pradesh.
