Aamir wanted to play Natha in Peepli Live

Many may wonder why Aamir Khan didn't act in his production film Peepli Live, as he identifies quite well with the aam aadmi, having acted in films like Lagaan. But the actor lost out the role of Natha to Omkar Das Manikpuri during the audition.

Aamir was impressed with Manikpuri at the audition, so much so that he decided to give away the role of Natha to him. Manikpuri was called for a small role but walked away with the lead role.

The lead actor Peepli Live said that he was on top of the world when Aamir said that he was planning to play Natha in the film but would give it to him. He added that Aamir told him only he could play Natha.

Peepli Live is a satire on the pledge of the farmers and brings to light their struggle. It also tells how the people right from the politicians to the bureaucrats to the television reporters to the local people try to exploit a situation to their advantage.

Directed by debutante Anusha Rizvi, the film features Omkar Das Manikpuri, Raghuveer Yadav, Malaika Shenoy, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Shalini Vatsa, Farrukh Jaffer and Vishal O Sharma in the lead roles. It is hitting the theatres today.
