Aishwarya's red carpet gown turns heads

By Raymond Ronamai

The much awaited Cannes Film Festival 2010 started off with a bang on 13th May. Bollywood beauty Aishwarya Bachchan walked down the red carpet that night at the premiere of the highly anticipated film, Robin Hood, starring Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett. She was joined by Eva Longoria, who, like her, is an ambassador for L"Oreal.

Aishwarya, who has been attending this international film festival since her film Devdas was screened there in 2002, walked in wearing a tailed lavender gown from Lebanese designer, Elie Saab"s Spring collection. The dress was fully embroidered, and she looked elegant in it. To add to the beauty of the dress she had round solitaires and sported a buffon hairstyle to complete the look.

Yet, the 36 year old actress" outfit drew mixed reactions from the designers across the board. The former Miss World has always faced criticism for her dressing sense on the red carpet. While some of the designers think that Ash got it right this time, some are of the opinion that she could have done much better had she worn a saree, as they feel she carries them off much better.

Renowned fashion designer Ritu Kumar thinks that the dress was too voluminous and it made the suave actress look squat and big. On the other hand, designer Vijay Arora feels that she looked absolutely ravishing and that the colour of the gown suited her just right.

The dress did manage to get Aishwarya, if not everyone"s, a few people"s approval, but it remains to be seen whether she can get on the Red Carpet's Best Dressed List with this one.
