Bollywood action and comedy king Akshay Kumar is in the news for all the wrong reasons. He wouldn't have dreamed in his wildest dreams that his visit to the ailing cartoonist RK Laxman in hospital last Saturday would earn him criticism. But the fact is that many are of the opinion that he shouldn't have stooped that low to promote his latest film Khatta Meetha.
“Just saw the front page of Bombay Times. I'm repulsed to see what lengths B'wood goes to, to promote a film. Poor RK Laxman looks terrible," tweeted VJ Nikhil Chinapa. “Need innovative ideas 2 promote films in competitive times. But Akshay Kumar grinning like a jackass at RKLaxman's hospital bed is a new low," wrote Rajeev Masand, a film critic.
However, Akshay is finding hard to understand why his photo op with RK Laxman created such a furore and thanked Amitabh Bachchan for supporting him. “Never have I felt such a strong support towards me in my career, the love you have for your colleagues and our fraternity is one to be admired and followed," posted Akshay.
“As usual people are so quick to judge situations. I was invited by Mr Laxman's family and press to visit him in the hospital, as they thought it would be nice to meet the man that is bringing to life his legendary comic. And anyone who see's my smile by his bedside in any other way other than love has a cold judge mental heart and i can only pity them," he added.
Well, Akshay's next film Khatta Meetha is based on Laxman"s iconic 'Common Man" and is scheduled for release on July 23. It is directed by Priyadarshan and has Trisha Krishnan in the female lead role.
