IIFA's journey in Columbo

It was a journey from Macau to Columbo and next it would be Toronto. Indian Cinema and its wings are spreading all over the world. The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) is carrying Indian Cinema's around the world. Well that may be one of the reasons for the drastic increase in Bollywood fan following.

Looking back at the past 11 years, IIFA Awards has become one of its kind in the field of cinema. This time IIFA was held in Columbo, Sri Lanka. Between all the special events, Bollywood celebrities had a ball in Sri Lanka. The final event saw almost all the Bollywood celebrities except for brand ambassador of IIFA actor Amitabh Bachchan and his family.

Well, Aamir Khan is never seen around IIFA down the years, but it was surprising to see that the baadshah of Bollywood Shahrukh Khan was missing from the big day. Well his absence on the eve was most felt when he was not seen on the stage, ragging all other Bollywood stars. But, Riteish Deshmukh and Boman Irani with actress Lara Dutta hosted the show in the best way they could. It was the third time in a row that the pair (Boman and Riteish) were seen on the stage as the most hilarious host ever.

The audience at the event comprised of all the big shots of Sri Lanka with our Hindi film fraternity. The show was opened by Bollywood Actress Jacqueline Fernandez who was Miss Sri Lanka 2003. The audiences were entertained by special sizzling performance by our Bollywood Stars, like Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Vivek Oberoi, Bipasha Basu.

With all the celebrations and performances, it was hard time for all the actors, actresses, director, as this was the day when they would be awarded for their one years hard work. Though Amitabh Bachchan was not seen around he won the IIFA best actor male 2010 award for his brilliant performance in the movie Paa. The best actress award was grabbed by actress Kareena Kapoor for her movie 3 Idiots and Vidya Balan for the movie Paa. The award for the best movie, best lyrics and direction was won by the Bollywood Blockbuster of last year film 3 Idiots.

Best comic role award was bagged by Sanjay Dutt for the movie All The Best. Best Music Director of the year is Pritam for his outstanding music in the film Love Aaj Kal. Best play back singer male was awarded to Shaan for his voice in the film 3 idiots. Best play back singer female was bagged by Kavita Seth for the beautiful song in the film Wake Up Sid. Promising male debutant of the year was titled to actor Omi Vaidya for 3 Idiots and Jackie Bhagnani for film Kal Kisne Dekha. The promising female debutant was presented to Jacqueline Fernandes from Sri Lanka for her acting in the movie Alladin and Mahie Gill for her role in the film Dev D.

There were other big awards of the night. Out standing achievement by an Indian Internationale was awarded to actor Anil Kapoor. The years, Habitat for Humanity Ambassadorship was given to actor Salman Khan. Veteran actress Zeenat Aman was honoured by IIFA outstanding contribution to Hindi Cinema female and actor J.Omprakash was honoured by the IIFA outstanding contribution to Hindi Cinema male.

The next trip is to Toronto, till then hope we have a couple of good movies this year too.
