AR Rahman's chance to win back-to-back Oscars ended today at Los Angeles. The Mozart of Madras has failed to win a nomination in the 'Best Original Song' category thus dashing India's hope at this year's Academy Awards. Rahman was listed in the category of Best Original Score for 'Na na' from the Peter Billingsle directed Couples Retreat.

'Na na' lost the race to 'Almost There' by Randy Newman for The Princess and the Frog, 'Down in New Orleans' from the same movie, 'Loin de Paname' from Paris 36 by Reinhardt Wagner and Frank Thomas; 'Take it all' from the movie "Nine" by Maury Yeston and 'The weary kind' from the movie Crazy Heart" by Ryan Bingham and T Bone Burnett.

Incidentally this disappointment comes days after Rahman bagged two honours as the 2010 Grammy Awards for for the Danny Boyle directed Slumdog Millionaire. Last year Rahman had bagged two Academy Awards in the Best Original Music Score and Best Original Song category Slumdog Millionaire who had even won the Best Picture award.

Rahman was India's only hope at the 82nd Annual Academy Awards for India as the Marathi movie Harishchandrachi Factory, India's official entry at the Oscars, had already been voted out of the race last month in the Foreign Language Film category. The winners of this year's academy awards will be announced on March 7.
