Singer Usha Uthup has flirted with acting in a few films (Bombay To Goa, Hat Trick and a Malayalam film Pothen Vave) and will now be seen in a dark role in Vishal Bhardwaj's Saat Khoon Maaf starring Priyanka Chopra.
Usha will be essaying the character of Priyanka Chopra's maid and confidante, who is witness to her mistress's gory deeds (she kills all her seven husbands in the film).
Usha who has already shot with the director for three days says, "I had stopped acting in films as I didn't get a role which was good enough. Everyone was only asking me to play myself. I almost jumped out of my skin when Vishal sir offered me such an exciting role in his film. It's got layers to it and is very challenging. It's a dark comedy."
She adds her role is dark and has negative shades. "I won't be wearing my trademark bindis, gajras and sarees for the role. I wanted to do the role so badly that I have put my singing on hold till the next two months till shooting ends," she says.
The singer continues, "I have had readings with Vishal sir. It's been an amazing experience working with him and Priyanka.
She's a lovely girl and I don't know who I love more her mom or her! Her mom told me she had heard me singing in Trinca's in Kolkata 40 years ago. After shooting got over, we would sit together and chat."
Usha also sings in the film. "It's a great honour and privilege working with Vishal Sir and I hope to do a good job. In the last few months, I have been living out of my suitcase and I am feeling good that my career is on the upswing."
