Peepli Live director bags Gollapudi Srinivas Award

Bollywood director Anusha Rizvi would be honoured with the Gollapudi Srinivas National Award for the year 2010 for his debut directorial venture Peepli Live, which was nominated for Oscars 2011. The award comprises a cash prize of Rs 1.5 lakh and it would be presented to Rizvi at a function to be held here on August 12.

Anusha Rizvi's Peepli Live, which has been produced under Aamir Khan banner, is a satire on media's trivialisation of farmers' suicide. It has been appreciated by both audience and the film critics. It has been screened at International Film Festivals held at Durban, Berlin and Sundance and has also won the Best Feature Film award in Durban.

However, the Gollapudi Srinivas National Award is one of prestigious awards in India. It has been instituted by the Gollapudi Srinivas Memorial Foundation, which was established in 1998 after the death of director Gollapudi Srinivas. Ever since the Foundation has been honouring one Bollywood director every year. Amit Rai, Praesh Mokashi, Aamir Khan are some of the B-Town filmmaker, who have received this honour.
