Freida Pinto's lightened skin for L'Oréal ad sparks controversy

L"Oreal"s new advertisement for 'Colours Take Flight' limited-edition collection shows Slumdog Millionaire actress Freida Pinto look a few shades lighter than her actual colour. The commercial is causing uproar amongst many who consider it to be racial discrimination from countries obsessed with fair skin.

Earlier, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was 'whitewashed" on the cover page of the Elle magazine. Even though Aishwarya is light skinned, they still decided to paint her white. That had stirred quite a controversy then.

However, L'Oreal spokesperson, speaking to a popular newspaper denied any retouching and clarified, “Freida Pinto has been a spokesperson for the L'Oreal Paris brand since 2009. We highly value our relationship with Ms Pinto. It is categorically untrue that L'Oreal Paris altered Ms Pinto's features or skin-tone in the campaign for Project Runway 'Colors Take Flight' limited-edition collection."
