Amitabh Bachchan pays tribute to Ghazal king Mehdi Hassan

Superstar Amitabh Bachchan paid his tribute to Ghazal maestro Mehdi Hassan on Twitter. Amitabh said that the era of soulful singing has come to an end.

Amitabh Bachchan wrote on micro blogging site Twitter, "Deeply pained to learn of the passing away ofMehdi Hassan in Pakistan... a vocalist of immense fame and unique sonorous voice."

Amitabh Bachchan further added, "Mehdi Hassan, an entire era of soulful ghazal singing gone... now left with beautiful memories and personal meetings with him."

Amitabh also remembered his meeting with the legendary singer. He tweeted, "Mehdi Hassan once told me, he came from humble beginnings, and used to train and sing to the tone of the tractor sound in the fields."

Mehdi Hassan was a Pakistani ghazal singer who was born in India. He passed away at a Karachi hospital at the age of 84, on Wednesday, after multiple organ failure.

Mehdi Hassan will be laid to rest on Friday.
