Bollywood
superstar
Aamir
Khan
opined
that
we
could
combat
violence
against
women
only
if
the
men
are
ready
to
change.
Aamir,
whose
latest
flick
Dhoom
3
collected
a
whopping
Rs.
530
crores
in
the
box
office,
said
this
in
a
video
message
to
endorse
the
One
Billion
Rising
Campaign.
A
movement
to
stop
violence
against
women,
One
Billion
Rising
Campaign
actively
organized
many
street
plays
and
other
workshops
last
year
to
generate
awareness
about
violence
against
women.
In
the
video
message,
Aamir
also
said
that
domestic
violence
shows
one's
cowardice
than
masculinity.
The
Dhoom
3
star
explained,
"I
believe
that
to
combat
violence
against
women,
we
men
will
first
have
to
change.
Raising
our
hand
to
strike
a
woman
does
not
increase
our
masculinity.
Instead,
it
shows
cowardice." Hopefully
Aamir
Khan's
presence
in
the
campaign
will
generate
more
publicity
for
the
cause.
Kamla
Bhasin
who
leads
the
campaign
for
South
Asia
stated,
"Last
year
on
14
February,
about
one
billion
people
in
207
countries
rose,
sang
and
danced
to
this
demand.
But
gang
rapes,
molestations,
dowry
deaths,
abuse
and
many
more
such
violence
against
women
have
continued."
Aamir
Khan
has
always
stood
for
women's
rights
and
through
his
show
Satyameva
Jayate,
he
tried
to
bring
an
awareness
against
female
foeticide
and
rape.
