Mallika Sherawat Calls India 'Regressive' Towards Women!
Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat who is known for her blunt statements strongly advocated equal rights for women in India, while evoked another controversy calling India as "highly regressive" nation in regard to women's rights.
In a recent interview with an American magazine, Mallika highlighted the condition of women which according to the actress is 'depressing'. "When I experience social freedom in America and I go back to India I feel India to be so regressive towards women. As an independent woman, it's really very depressing," said Mallika Sherawat in the interview.
This statement grabbed a lot of media attention both abroad and in India. Later, Mallika had an interview with another American news channel in which Mallika throughly spoke her heart out and narrated how she was suppressed in India for being a woman. "I grown up in a rural India and my gender was used to suppress me in many ways. I was denied many things just because I am a woman. My father hasn't talk to me ever since I decided to become an actress," said Mallika with a heavy voice.
She further added that India is on a track of development but it cannot rise unless women are granted equal rights and are considered at par with men. "We need deep rooted changes in the nation's mind-set. Girls are not liabilities but are assets and India cannot rise unless women are granted equal rights," asserted the actress.
Also to be mentioned, Mallika in the interview expressed remorse at being verbally attacked by a female journalist two months past her statement of "regressive India" and the video got viral. "My battles with media is frustrating as they criticise me for speaking the truth. It's really very unfortunate when your sister attacks you for speaking on her own favour," added remorseful Mallika.
Well, Mallika Sherawat many a times has been at the center of controversy, however raising voice for a cause like women upliftment is truly appreciable on the part of the actress.
Mallika Sherawat known for her bold scenes, started her career in Bollywood with the movie Khwahish but made her existence felt with the following thriller Murder. Her upcoming movies include Fauj Mein Mauj, Contract, Police Tiger among others.
