Shahrukh Khan Speaks Up On Freedom Of Speech & Intolerance
Shahrukh Khan, who is celebrating his 50th birthday today, has spoken out on freedom of speech and intolerance growing in the country.
A leading media publication, India Today had organized a Twitter town hall programme with Rajdeep Sardesai, and SRK voiced his opinions on questions regarding secularism.
The Baadshah of Bollywood, spoke about the hot topic of writers and intellectuals returning their awards against the Central Government over growing religious tensions.
When a question was asked if he would ever give his awards back in protest, Shahrukh Khan was quoted as saying,
"I have not been in a situation like that. But I respect the people. If they think this gesture is going to turn things around, it is very brave, very honest. As far as I am concerned, I have not participated in something as meaningful as they have."
The birthday boy Shahrukh Khan, also confirmed that he's sometimes scared to talk about certain issues and take a stand on it, as his statements might backfire. The actor was quoted as saying,
"We may talk about freedom of speech, but people come outside my house and throw stones... If I do take a stand, I'll stand by it".
Shahrukh Khan, feels that a lot of people talk even before thinking, and says, not being secular is the worst crime you can do as a patriot. King Khan was quoted as saying,
"Intolerance religiously...not being secular in this country is the worst crime you can do as a patriot."
Shahrukh Khan, on his birthday has treated all his fans, the second teaser of his upcoming movie Fan. The teaser shows a common boy collecting pictures of SRK and dreaming to meet him.
Fan, is all set to hit the theatres on April 15, 2016. The movie is produced by Aditya Chopra under the banner of Yash Raj Films.
