Not so long ago, while beginning the shooting of the film, Anushka had revelaed that the film is set against the backdrop of a Punjabi marriage but it is not a wedding drama.
"Wedding in the movie is just the backdrop of the story. 'Phillauri' has got shades of drama, craziness and really interesting characters. It is romantic, fun and at the same time very intriguing. The story is set in Phillaur district of Punjab," told Anushka.
Along with Anushka, the film also casts Punjab sensation Diljit Dosanjh, Suraj Sharma of Life of Pi fame and Mehreen Pirzada in the key roles.

Apart from Phillari, Anushka Sharma will be next seen two mega-flicks i.e., Salman Khan starrer Sultan and Karan Johar's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, which also casts Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Fawad Khan in the lead roles.
