collaborate
with
Toronto-based

Virmani

make
a
historical
film
entitled
Lions
Of
The
Sea.
The
film
is
based
on
the
celebrated
1914
incident
when
the
Japanese
ship
Kamagata
Maru
sailed
with
over
349
Sikh
passengers
to
Canada
but
was
denied
entry
and
stars
Irrfan
Khan.
The
actor
will
be
essaying
the
role
of
the
Sikh
lawyer
Gurdit
Singh
who
fought
for
the
Kamagata
Maru
passengers'
right
to
enter
Canada.
Amar
Butala,
CEO
of
Salman
Khan
Films
confirmed
this
news
and
was
quoted
saying,
"It's
a
powerful
human
story
of
struggle
and
triumph
in
which
Irrfan
will
play
a
Sikh
named
Gurdit
Singh.
The
story
of
those
Sardars,
Muslims
and
Hindus
is
relevant
even
today
as
we
hear
and
read
about
the
refugee
crisis
and
racial
profiling
constantly.
We
have
begun
work
on
the
pre-production
and
will
announce
the
director
and
the
rest
of
the
cast
in
the
next
few
days."

film

to
roll
next
