Can Bollywood Do A Meryl Streep At Award Functions? Can B-town Openly Insult Leaders?
Meryl Streep slams Donald Trump at the Golden Globe Awards 2017 without even mentioning his name. Can Bollywood stars do the same in India by standing up to a political leader without facing backlash?
Donald
Trump
is
the
President-elect
of
the
United
States
of
America
and
he
fought
Hillary
Clinton
very
hard
to
win
the
election.
Trump
was
mocked
every
single
day
by
the
media,
celebrities,
elites
and
other
global
establishments
by
calling
him
as
a
"candidate
who
will
never
win." Despite
everything
being
against
him,
Trump
pulled
it
off
and
won
the
election
with
ease
and
his
fans
had
the
last
laugh.
The
people
of
the
USA
did
not
care
what
the
elites
think
and
wanted
progress,
hence
voted
for
Trump.
Celebrities
opinions
are
irrelevant
for
the
people,
when
it
comes
to
elections!
The
hatred
against
Donald
Trump
has
not
settled
yet
and
Meryl
Streep,
who
won
an
Award
at
the
Golden
Globes
2017
spewed
venom
against
him
without
even
mentioning
his
name.
Meryl
dissed
Trump
by
saying
how
she
found
it
prudent
to
insult
a
disabled
journalist
in
a
public
platform
and
yet
he
was
chosen
to
the
highest
power
of
the
country.
Now
the
question
is,
can
Bollywood
stars
do
a
Meryl
Streep
at
any
award
show?
Film-maker
Anurag
Kashyap
tweeted,
"We
in
our
film
industry
don't
even
need
to
give
a
speech
like
Meryl
Streep
if
we
just
start
standing
up
with
those
who
actually
speak
up."
What
Anurag
Kashyap
meant
was,
if
Bollywood
stands
united
'as
one'
on
any
given
issue
without
the
fear
of
being
alienated
or
mocked,
the
film
industry
will
reach
the
heights
of
Hollywood
in
terms
of
speaking
out
against
prejudices.
But
that
is
indeed
a
distant
case!
We
cannot
blame
the
film
stars
for
it,
as
it
takes
a
lot
to
stand
up
against
a
political
leader
in
India.
An
actor's
career
might
come
to
a
halt!
Even
the
Baadshah
of
Bollywood,
Shahrukh
Khan
was
left
to
fend
by
himself
when
his
film
Raees
was
nearing
its
release
as
it
has
Pakistani
actress
Mahira
Khan
in
the
lead
role.
SRK
had
to
visit
Raj
Thackeray's
house
and
plead
with
him
not
to
harm
the
movie
in
any
way.
In
2015,
his
film
Dilwale
was
stalled
in
Mangalore
by
fringe
groups
as
he
commented
that
'India
was
growing
intolerant.'
Karan
Johar
had
to
pay
5
Crores
to
the
army
fund
when
Ae
Dil
Hai
Mushkil
was
nearing
its
release.
Also,
Hollywood
actors
are
brave
and
free
because
Donald
Trump
fans
will
never
sit
for
a
'dharna'
in
front
of
Meryl
Steep's
house
and
will
not
stall
and
disrupt
her
movies
and
neither
will
they
have
to
pay
a
fine,
but
that's
not
the
case
for
Bollywood
actors.
Any
slight
provocation
can
lead
to
'dharnas'
and
cause
financial
losses
to
the
actors
and
film-makers.
Hence
B-town
stars
are
cautious
to
call
out
on
a
political
leader
in
a
public
platform
as
the
backlash
is
quite
severe.
The
only
option
left
is
to
either
fight
them
(which
is
impossible)
or
to
maintain
amicable
relations
with
the
leaders
for
their
own
good.
Bollywood
stars
chose
the
latter,
which
is
totally
understandable.
