CONFIRMED! Manisha Koirala To Play Ranbir Kapoor's Mother Nargis In Sanjay Dutt Biopic
Rajkumar Hirani confirmed the news and said that they chose Manisha Koirala to play Nargis as she’s a cancer survivor and, having been through the journey herself, can identify with Nargis.

end!
There
is
a
new
addition
to
the
cast
of
Rajkumar
Hirani's
biopic
on
Sanjay
Dutt
and
it's
none
other
than
Manisha
Koirala
who
will
be
essaying
the
role
of
Nargis
Dutt
in
the
film.
Director
Rajkumar
Hirani
confirmed
the
news
to
a
leading
daily
and
said,
"Yes,
Manisha
is
playing
Nargisji.
She's
a
wonderful
person,
extremely
sweet."
When
prodded
on
his
choice
of
actress
for
the
role,
he
said
that
Nargis
was
the
beautiful
lady
of
Indian
cinema
and
they
wanted
someone
who
looked
just
as
beautiful.
He
was
quoted
saying,
"We
were
thinking
of
many
actresses.
And
while
Manisha
is
really
pretty
and
a
fantastic
actress,
my
primary
reason
for
taking
her
is
that
she's
a
cancer
survivor
and,
having
been
through
the
journey
herself,
can
identify
with
Nargisji's
fight
with
the
Big
C.
When
we
met,
she
told
me
a
little
about
that
journey."
Incidentally
Manisha
and
Sanjay
have
starred
together
in
films
like
Khauf,
Kartoos,
Yalgaar,
Sanam,
Achanak,
Baaghi
and
Mehbooba.
Manisha
was
last
seen
in
Rohit
Kaushik's
long-delayed
Chehre.
The
period-drama
saw
her
in
the
role
of
an
oldworld
actress
who
moves
from
black-and-white
to
colour
from
the
silent
era
to
the
talkies,
through
a
murder-mystery.
Further
the
actress
admitted
to
Mumbai
Mirror
that
she
was
hungry
for
good
roles
but
rued
that
none
of
the
offers
were
substantial.
"I
made
some
bad
choices
in
the
past
but
today
time
is
precious
and
I
don't
want
to
waste
it
on
substandard
work."
The
Dutt
biopic
also
features
Sonam
Kapoor
as
Sanjay's
earlier
love
interest,
Vicky
Kaushal
as
his
friend
from
the
US,
Anushka
Sharma
as
a
scribe,
Paresh
Rawal
as
Sunil
Dutt
and
Dia
Mirza
as
Maanayata
Dutt.The
makers
are
eyeing
for
a
Christmas
2017
release.
