Amitabh Bachchan praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Swachhata Hi Seva' movement, which started off today, on September 15, 2018, and lent his support towards the cause. He heaped praises on Modi's efforts to make India clean and also stated that he first-hand witnessed the Versova beach in Mumbai being clean. The Thugs Of Hindostan star also urged his fans to join the cause and promote awareness about cleanliness to one and all.
During the launch of the movement, Amitabh Bachchan opened up by saying, "Four years ago, you (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) introduced the nation to Swachh Bharat Mission and I also became a part of it as an Indian citizen. I have been associated with various cleanliness campaigns including a campaign to clean a beach (Versova), here in Mumbai."
There Was Only Garbage Visible At The Beach!
"I was shocked to see the condition there. We could just not see the beach as the only thing visible was garbage." Big B further stated that the beach has been cleaned and efforts are being made to maintain the same level of cleanliness throughout.
Prime Minister Modi Praised Amitabh Bachchan
He said, "I have been seeing your work related to this mission since I was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. I still remember, two years ago, you had associated your late father and celebrated writer Harivansh Rai Bachchan's birth anniversary with the cleanliness mission."
Swachh Bharat Mera Parichay
"You had written a line from his poem that read, 'Swachh tan, 'Swachh mann, 'Swachh Bharat, mera parichay'. I am grateful to you for inspiring the nation with this line of the great poet," the Prime Minister summed it up.
PM Sent 2000 Personalised Letters
PM Narendra Modi also sent out 2000 personalised letters to the citizens from different walks of life and invited them all to join the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' movement and further strengthen the Swachh Bharat Mission.
