AR Rahman Breaks His Silence On #MeToo Movement: 'Some Of The Names Have Shocked Me'
Speaking about #MeToo, AR Rahman shared that he's shocked with some of the names that have surfaced. He further hoped the industry will become a cleaner place now.
In
the
wake
of
the
MeToo
movement,
many
prominent
names
have
been
exposed
when
it
comes
to
sexual
harassment.
Multiple
women
have
come
forward
and
named
and
shamed
celebrities
like
Sajid
Khan,
Alok
Nath,
Vikas
Bahl,
Kailash
Kher,
Anu
Malik,
Mukesh
Chhabra
and
others
for
their
inappropriate
behaviour.
It
all
began
when
Tanushree
Dutta
accused
Nana
Patekar
of
sexually
harassing
her
on
the
sets
of
the
2008-film
Horn
OK
Pleassss.
As
many
men
and
women
muster
up
the
courage
to
share
their
MeToo
stories,
Oscar-winning
music
director,
singer-songwriter
and
composer
AR
Rahman,
finally
took
to
his
Twitter
page
last
night
which
reads
as
follows-
'Been
observing
the
#metoo
movement...
Some
of
the
names
have
shocked
me...
both
the
victims
and
their
perpetrators...
I
would
love
to
see
our
industry
become
cleaner
and
respectful
of
women.
More
power
to
all
the
victims
coming
forward!!!
In
all
my
endeavours,
my
team
and
I
are
committed
to
creating
an
environment
where
everyone
finds
a
safe
creative
space
to
bring
their
best,
evolve
and
succeed.
Social
media
offers
great
freedom
for
victims
to
speak
up,
however,
we
should
be
careful
in
creating
a
new
internet
justice
system,
in
case
it's
misused.'
The
music
composer
is
one
of
the
few
celebrities
who
took
to
social
media
and
promised
that
he
along
with
his
team,
were
committed
to
"creating
an
environment
where
everyone
finds
a
safe
creative
space
to
bring
their
best,
evolve
and
succeed."
