The lovebirds made their engagement official with a roka ceremony, which was followed by a private engagement dinner bash at the Chopra residence that was attended by their near and dear ones. Madhu Chopra told a leading daily, "I definitely want a traditional Indian wedding. That's my only wish. I started the roka with a puja, which is important to me. I'm a modern mother but at heart, I'm quite conservative."

She also opened up about her future son-in-law Nick Jonas to the same leading daily and was quoted as saying, "Nick is calm and mature. He's a wonderful person and everyone in the family just loves him. He's so polite and respectful towards elders. What more can a mother want!"
