Sushmita Sen Mourns The Death Of Miss Universe 1995 Chelsi Smith With A Heartfelt Post!
Chelsi Smith, who was crowned Miss Universe 1995, lost the battle to cancer. Miss Universe 1994 Sushmita Sen took to Twitter to mourn the loss of her 'beautiful friend'.

In a heartbreaking news, Chelsi Smith, the first and only Texan to win the Miss Universe crown, passed away after a year-long battle with liver cancer at the age of 45. Former beauty queen and Bollywood actor Sushmita Sen, who was crowned Miss Universe in the year 1994, took to Twitter to mourn the loss.
Sushmita tweeted, "I loved her smile & that generous spirit!!! Rest in peace my beautiful friend @Chelsi_Smith #MissUniverse1995 Dugga Dugga." Along with this post, she also shared a throwback picture, which captures the moment the Indian beauty had passed her crown to Smith. Have a look at it here.

Shanna Moakler, who was the runner-up to Chelsi in the 1995 pageant, also took to Twitter to mourn the loss of her dear friend and wrote an emotional post that read, "I am heartbroken. Godspeed beautiful. You were my friend and a light. I love and will miss you more then you will never know. The epitome of a Queen."
Jarrod Klawinsky, a spokesman for Smith, revealed that she was diagnosed with cancer in spring 2017. "It just got worse throughout 2017, and this year she became extremely weak," he was quoted as saying by Houston Chronicle.
In August, Smith went to her mother's home in Pennsylvania, where she remained until she passed away on Saturday afternoon.
For those who aren't aware, Chelsi had competed in her first major beauty contest in 1994, wherein she was the semifinalist in the Miss Texas USA Pageant. She then competed again as Miss Galveston County USA and won the title. Chelsi also starred in several television shows.
