Akshay Kumar is back on the celluloid with an intriguing chapter from history. The Khiladi Kumar recently shared a sneak peek into his upcoming period drama Kesari which is based on the Battle of Saragarhi.
Tweeting a new poster, the actor posted on his Twitter handle, "Unraveling the pages of history to the bravest battle ever fought. #GlimpsesOfKesari from tomorrow, are you ready? #Kesari."
The poster features Akshay depicting a Sikh man with his sword drawn facing the light while his troops rally in the background with swords.
For those who ain't aware, the Battle Of Saragarhi was fought before the Tirah Campaign on September 12, 1897, between Sikh soldiers of the British Indian Army and Pashtun Orakzai tribesmen. The British Indian contingent comprised 21 Sikh soldiers of the 36th Sikhs (now the fourth battalion of the Sikh Regiment), who were stationed at an army post and were attacked by around 10,000 Afghans. The Sikhs, led by Havildar Ishar Singh, chose to fight to the death, in what is considered by some military historians as one of history's greatest last-stands.
Kesari also stars Parineeti Chopra. Speaking about it, the actress had earlier said, "It is about the Battle of Saragarhi and it's all about the boys in the film. I have a much smaller role to play, but I enjoyed it thoroughly and I hope that I have done justice to it. I play Akshay sir's love interest and when I heard the story, I just wanted to do it."
Directed by Anurag Singh and jointly produced by Dharma Productions, Cape of Good Films and Azure Entertainment, Kesari is slated to release on March 21, 2019.
