Ranvir Shorey Slams Jaya Bachchan's Thali Comment; Says 'Only Pieces Are Thrown Away For Us'

The untimely demise of actor Sushant Singh Rajput has triggered a debate on nepotism, insider-outsider and drug abuse in the film industry. Amid this, veteran actress and politician Jaya Bachchan recently delivered a speech in the Parliament in which she condemned a few actors for defaming the film industry.

While Jaya Bachchan received support from many Bollywood celebrities, there were a few who didn't agree with her statements. One of them is actor Ranvir Shorey.

The Khosla Ka Ghosla actor tweeted, "Thaaliya sajaate hain ye apne bachcho ke liye. Hum jaiso ko feke jaate hain sirf tukde. Apna tiffin khud pack karke kaam pe jaate hain hum. Kisi ne kujh dia nahi hai. Jo hai, woh hai jo yah log humse le nahi sake. Inka bas chalta to wo bhi apne hi bachcho ko de dete. (They decorate plates for their children. Only pieces are thrown away for us. We pack our tiffin ourselves and go to work. Nobody has given us anything. What we have, these people couldn't take that from us. If they could, they would have given that as well to their kids)."

The Queen actress had taken to her Twitter page and written in Hindi, "What thali (plate) is Jaya referring to? The one that was offered was to appear in a two-minute role, a romantic scene, item numbers -- and that too after sleeping with the hero? I taught the industry feminism, decorated the thali with patriotic films, this is my own plate Jaya ji, not yours."

For the unversed, Jaya Bachchan had lashed out at celebrities who hail from the film industry, but tarnish its image by using derogatory words like 'gutter' for it. She was quoted as saying, "Jis thali me khaate hain usi me chhed karte hain (You bite the hand that feeds you)." This statement didn't go down well with celebrities like Kangana and Ranvir.

Earlier, Ranvir had taken a sly dig at Jaya Bachchan's speech in defence of Bollywood in his tweet that read, "The ones who come out defending the muck in #Bollywood are either the ‘gatekeepers', or the ones sucking up to them. If you don't like someone whistleblowing or using their freedom of expression, you're free to use your freedom of enabling."
