72 Hoorain Director Sanjay Chauhan Claims Receiving Death Threats, Mother Received Rape Threats

72 Hoorain Director: After The Kerala Story, the trailer for 72 Hoorain, which was dropped a few days ago, has created a massive buzz amongst audiences. The film, even before its release, has been the subject of several controversies.

The movie has now become one of the most talked-about in town and is all set for its theatrical release on July 7. The movie, directed by Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan, is being condemned by some religious leaders and politicians for targeting Islam.

Meanwhile, many are demanding a ban on the film. And it seems like this is not stopping anytime soon. As the release date gets closer, the row against 72 Hoorain seems to escalate.

Amid all this, 72 Hoorain's director and filmmaker, Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan, has made shocking claims on social media. Taking to his Twitter account, he revealed that he has been receiving hate and threat messages from Islamists.

Hitting a new low, many attacked the filmmaker with death threats and abusive texts on Instagram, while many even vowed to physically harm him. The film exposes the dark face of terrorism from 9/11 to 26/11, which relates to Islam.

And now enraged fundamentalists have resorted to not only abusing Sanjay and the Hindu religion, but they have also issued rape threats to his mother. Many harassed him by making voice and video calls on Instagram.

For the unaware, 72 Hoorain was premiered at the 2019 International Film Festival of India (IFFI), after which Chauhan was also awarded the best director National Award in 2021.

72 Hoorain controversies

The film's trailer was slammed by Kashmiri leaders for its negative portrayal of Muslims, who stated that it "hurts the sentiments" of the community. Many prominent politicians accused the film of being a propaganda movie.

On the other hand, 72 Hoorain's makers have accused the Censor Board of not giving the green light to the film's trailer and have asked them to remove certain words and scenes as well. Its co-producer Ashoke Pandit's Twitter account too got suspended amid the controversy.

Slamming the Censor board, Pandit said, "We are going to rip off the Censor Board. Who are these people sitting there? It's a very serious matter. All the authorities of the censor board are answerable for this decision of rejecting the certificate for the trailer of a National Award winning film."
