The screening started at 4 pm at JNU's convention center amid backlash from the university's student's union.

The screening was also attended by the director of the film, Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan, producer of the film, Kiran Dagar, co-producers Ashoke Pandit, Gulab Singh Tanwar, and one of the lead actors, Pavan Malhotra.

During an interview with ANI, Ashoke Pandit said, "The experience was brilliant because we believed in the subject and the subject was close to us."

He further added, "Our intention is to expose terrorism -- all those forces which are supporting terrorism, which is sowing a seed of terrorism in humankind and the innocents who are getting targeted."

Ashoke Pandit concluded saying, "This has nothing to do with Islam and the Quran. We are talking about terrorist organisations."

As per reports by Indian Express the screening inside the campus began with the chants of 'Jai Shri Ram', 'Har Har Mahadev', and 'Jai Hind', the filmmakers raised that, members of VVM and viewers.

72 Hoorain was mired in controversies as the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) refused certification of the film's trailer, which was later clarified as CBFC stated that it was misinformation. The film also faced backlash from the religious groups and political leaders of Kashmir, who stated that the film puts Muslims in a negative light and thus hurts the community's sentiments.

72 Hoorain helmed by Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan was premiered in Goa at the 2019 International Film Festival of India (IFFI). The film received the ICFT-UNESCO GANDHI MEDAL Special Mention and was also included in the Indian Panorama section.
