The actress was born and brought up in Vancouver, but her roots belong in Punjab. In an exclusive conversation with Filmibeat, the actress reminisced about the beauty of her hometown while lauding her Punjabi roots.

Talking about her Punjabi roots, the actress quipped, "My father belonged to a village in Ludhiana and my mother is from Kishanpura Kalan - a village in Moga. Talking about the beauty of Punjab and the lip-smacking cuisine, Tanu said, "There are plenty of things to love about Punjab, but what I love about this place is the people there and the love between them. They are so united, kind and helpful. Nothing beats the delicious food in Punjab, I remember that when we used to visit Punjab I used to eat 'Gol-gappe' every day. Another thing I absolutely love about this place is the feeling I get when I stand on the terrace of my house and look at my whole village. The feeling is so refreshing and fulfilling."
