Adipurush
Row:
The
Supreme
Court
has
refused
to
address
an
urgent
plea
regarding
the
Allahabad
High
Court's
order
summoning
the
makers
of
the
controversial
film,
Adipurush.
The
film,
touted
as
the
modern
saga
of
the
Hindu
epic
Ramayana,
drew
massive
flak
for
its
dialogue
and
VFX.
DY
Chandrachud,
the
Chief
Justice
leading
the
bench,
requested
the
counsel
representing
the
movie
makers
to
bring
up
the
matter
on
Thursday.
His
decision
indicated
that
the
matter
will
be
dealt
with
through
regular
legal
procedures.
On
June
30,
the
Allahabad
High
Court
directed
the
filmmakers
to
attend
a
hearing
on
July
27.
It
also
instructed
the
central
government
to
form
a
committee
to
provide
its
perspective
on
the
film
and
review
its
decision
to
grant
certification
to
the
movie.
The
high
court
had
received
separate
petitions
by
Kuldeep
Tiwari
and
Naveen
Dhawan
seeking
a
ban
on
the
film.
In
response
to
the
petitions,
the
Allahabad
High
Court
summoned
the
makers
and
asked
them
to
appear
before
it
on
July
27.
The
court
also
suggested
the
formation
of
a
five-member
committee
to
assess
whether
the
film
has
offended
public
sentiments
and
share
its
perspective
on
the
film.
The
Allahabad
High
Court
has
requested
the
Ministry
of
Information
and
Broadcasting
secretary
and
the
chairman
of
the
Central
Board
of
Film
Certification
(CBFC)
to
submit
personal
affidavits
to
ensure
adherence
to
certification
guidelines.
Meanwhile,
opening
on
the
controversy,
trade
analyst
Akshay
Rathi
told
India
Today,
"The
way
that
movie
was
structured,
everything
was
fine
financially.
What
went
wrong
is
the
storytelling
and
the
reputational
loss
that
it
caused
to
the
makers.
There
is
an
element
of
faith
and
divinity
attached
to
Ramayana
and
it
needs
to
be
treated
in
a
certain
manner.
The
way
Adipurush
was
narrated
really
didn't
resonate
with
the
sensibilities
and
faith
of
people.
That's
what
gave
it
the
backlash
it
got."
The
film
starred
Prabhas
and
Kriti
Sanon
as
lead.
Sunny
Singh
essayed
Lakshman,
and
Devdatta
Nage
was
seen
as
Lord
Hanuman.
