Cannes 2023 | Vijay Recalls How Designers Rejected Him During Cannes Debut: Didn’t Have Money To Buy My Pics

The prestigious 76th Cannes Film Festival has begun with a bang in the Palace of Festivals and Congresses of Cannes and everyone has their eyes on the celebs walking down the red carpet this year. Interestingly, several Bollywood celebrities were seen walking on the red carpet.

This included names like Sara Ali Khan, Manushi Chillar, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan etc. Among these, Vijay Varma also graced the inaugural session at the India Pavilion and he clearly nailed his Cannes look this year.

While walking the Cannes red carpet has been undoubtedly a moment of pride for Vijay, this isn't his debut appearance at the prestigious event. Instead, he had made his Cannes debut in 2013 when he had accompanied the team of Monsoon Shootout.

Recalling his Cannes debut, Vijay revealed that he was rejected by designers. Talking to Film Companion, Vijay revealed that while he had bought a Zara jacket for the event, he was required to wear the whole suit for the main event red carpet. The Darlings actor recalled how he approached the designers for the outfit and was turned down by them.

"I went to people, saying, 'Can some designer come, can some stylist help me out?' And they said, 'Who's Vijay Varma? We don't want to dress anybody.'," he recalled. Later, his friend gifted him a Zara suit which he wore on the red carpet.

Vijay also revealed that somebody even stitched a tuxedo for him for the prestigious event. This isn't all. He also admitted that he didn't have the money to buy his own pics from the event. "When I saw the pictures, they came out on Getty Images and all these places, which I didn't have money to buy from," he added.

However, the Dahaad actor admitted that he was 'enchanted' by his looks from the event.

Talking about the work front, Vijay is currently basking in the success of his recent release Dahaad with Sonakshi Sinha and Gulshan Devaiah. Besides, he will be next seen in Sujoy Ghosh's directorial which is an onscreen adaptation of the book The Devotion of Suspect X. The movie also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Jaideeo Ahlawat in the lead.
