Cannes Film Festival 2023: The prestigious 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival is gearing up for its grand launch. Cinema and everybody related to it from across the world are honoured and celebrated in this annually held festival.

While an announcement about the film premiering at the festival has been made, let's take a look at the list of Indian films that will get a grand premier at the Palme d'Or.

1) KENNEDY

Anurag Kashyap's Kennedy has been selected as part of the Midnight Screenings section of the Cannes film festival, which will be held from May 16-27. The film stars Sunny Leone, Rahul Bhatt, and Abhilash Thapliyal. Currently, details about the film have been kept under wraps.

2) AGRA

After Anurag Kashyap's Kennedy, Agra, starring Rahul Roy, is the second Indian movie that will have its world premiere at the Directors' Fortnight section of the Cannes Film Festival. It is the only Indian film selected in this category.

Written and directed by Kanu Behl, it also stars Priyanka Bose, newcomer Mohit Agarwal, and Ruhani Sharma. Veteran actors Vibha Chibber, Sonal Jha, and Aanchal Goswami also have important roles in the film. Agra revolves around the sexual dynamic within a family.

It is director Kanu Behl's second movie to be premiered at Cannes after his debut film Titli, which premiered in the Un Certain Regard section in 2014.

3) FIREBRAND

Directed by Aruna Raje, this is an Indian drama that revolves around complex marriage issues and a feminist attorney who handles the cases on behalf of her female clients. But her married life itself is suffering because of an abusive incident from the past.

It stars Usha Jadhav and Sachin Khedekar and is produced by Priyanak Chopra's Purple Pebble Productions. Firebrand was first released on February 22, 2019 on Netflix.

4) ISHANOU

The Manipuri movie Ishanou is the only restored movie to be screened at Cannes 2023. The Film Heritage Foundation, based in Mumbai, has restored the acclaimed 1990 film 'Ishanou' by the renowned Manipuri filmmaker Aribam Syam Sharma as part of their initiative to revive and preserve India's forgotten cinematic treasures.

The restoration has been officially selected for a red carpet world premiere on May 19 at the festival's Cannes Classic section.
