Deepika Padukone Says ‘Don't Need To Move To Another Country To Be Accepted’, Netizens Call It A Dig At PeeCee

Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone has caused a stir on social media with her comments about acceptance and moving to another country. While the actress did not name anyone, netizens are speculating that her words might be directed at Priyanka Chopra.

She addressed the topic of global recognition and said that she doesn't feel the need to move to another country or change her accent to get accepted.
DEEPIKA PADUKONE TALKS ABOUT GLOBAL RECOGNITION
She was quoted as saying, "I have global ambitions, but much of it is being beyond a movie star. There is a lot I want to do globally as an individual. I find it fascinating and strange at the same time to think that we were almost apologetic about who we are and where we came from.
We have always overcompensated because of this. I don't feel I need to move to another country or speak the way they speak in order to be accepted. Has the journey taken longer? Yes. But I Sleep better knowing I am in my culture and I do it on my own terms"
A screengrab of Deepika's statement made its way on the popular online platform, Reddit. Her comments left netizens divided as some thought she took an indirect dig at her Bajirao Mastani co-star, Priyanka Chopra who has successfully transitioned to Hollywood.
NETIZENS REACT TO DEEPIKA PADUKONE'S COMMENT
A user wrote, "PC is the only relevant Bolly star in Holly right now so subconsciously it seems to be dig coz the "move into another country" n "speak the way they speak" is soo specific and direct lol. Deepika is drop dead gorgeous and I get the LV deal but she doesn't have that x-factor like PC to stick around in Holly."
Another user wrote, "I don't feel I need to move to another country or speak the way they speak in order to be accepted" Did anyone ask her to do that? Why does she keep saying this? Did someone give her an offer to sign a big Hollywood film only if she shifts to the US, speak in an American accent and marry a white guy? Like, why does she keep bringing this up unprovoked, if not to throw shade at PC?"
A third user argued, "Not a dig. She conveyed very well and I agree with it. Whatever she will talk about any matter, looks like a dig to anyone who wants to see that way."
