Sanjay
Gadhvi,
the
director
of
Dhoom,
passed
away
at
his
residence
on
Sunday
morning,
as
confirmed
by
his
elder
daughter
Sanjina.
He
was
56
and
was
set
to
celebrate
his
57th
birthday
in
just
three
days.
Gadhvi
gained
fame
for
directing
two
blockbuster
hits
in
Yash
Raj
Films'
Dhoom
franchise
-
Dhoom
(2004)
and
Dhoom
2
(2006).
According
to
Sanjina,
the
director,
who
appeared
to
be
in
good
health,
passed
away
around
9.30
am,
and
the
cause
is
suspected
to
be
a
heart
attack.
Kunal
Kohli,
director
of
Hum
Tum
and
Fanaa,
expressed
his
condolences
on
social
media,
stating,
"This
is
beyond
shocking.

For
those
who
are
unaware,
Gadhvi
started
his
directorial
journey
in
2000
with
Tere
Liye,
followed
by
2002's
Mere
Yaar
Ki
Shaadi
Hai,
his
first
collaboration
with
Yash
Raj
Films.
His
breakthrough
came
with
the
stylish
action
thriller
Dhoom,
making
motorbiking
a
cultural
phenomenon
among
Indian
youth
in
the
early
2000s.
The
film
portrayed
a
cat-and-mouse
game
between
a
gang
of
motorbike
robbers,
led
by
Kabir
(John
Abraham),
and
Jai
Dixit
(Abhishek
Bachchan),
a
Mumbai
cop
who
teams
up
with
Ali
(Uday
Chopra),
a
motorbike
dealer,
to
stop
them.
Gadhvi
directed
the
successful
sequel,
Dhoom
2,
in
2006,
featuring
Bachchan,
Chopra,
Hrithik
Roshan,
Aishwarya
Rai
Bachchan,
and
Bipasha
Basu.
However,
the
third
installment
was
directed
by
Vijay
Krishna
Acharya
in
2013,
with
Bachchan,
Chopra,
Aamir
Khan,
and
Katrina
Kaif.
Gadhvi's
filmography
also
includes
Kidnap
(2008),
Ajab
Gazabb
Love
(2012),
and
Operation
Parindey,
his
final
directorial
released
in
2020.
Survived
by
his
wife
and
another
daughter,
Gadhvi
leaves
behind
a
legacy
in
the
Indian
film
industry.
