Dunki Vs Salaar: Maratha Mandir Theatre Owner Replaces Shah Rukh Khan's Film With Prabhas Starrer For 3 Shows

Dunki Taken Down At Maratha Mandir

Dunki Taken Down At Maratha Mandir: After a streak of success with Jawan and Pathaan, Shah Rukh Khan returned with his third film of the year, Dunki. The film, released on December 21, has been performing well at the box office, grossing over 50 cr on its opening day.

Eliciting a sense of love for the homeland, Rajkumar Hirani's Dunki opened to big screens amidst massive fanfare. SRK and Maratha Mandir's relationship dates back to the 90s. The theatre has never failed to screen any Shah Rukh film. However, something unthinkable has happened with Dunki.

Shah Rukh Khan-Rajkumar Hirani's Dunki's shows at the iconic Maratha Mandir are being replaced by Prabhas starrer dystopian drama Salaar. Yes, you heard that right, and it is shocking!

Dunki shows replaced by Salaar at Maratha Mandir

According to reports, not only Mumbai's Maratha Mandir theatre but several film exhibitors, especially single-screen owners, are replacing all three shows of Dunki for Prashanth Neel's directorial Salaar - Part One: Ceasefire.

While the theatre owners stated that they have done this because of "not-so-encouraging audience response and arm-twisting games for 100%". But, there is no clear confirmation behind it.

Meanwhile, a page named Yogesh on social media platform X shared a video where a person can be seen saying that Maratha Mandir is showing all shows for Salaar only.

The video was captioned, "UTTER SHAME FOR SHAHRUKH KHAN. Iconic Maratha Mandir Theatre Owners have Replaced #Dunki with Prabhas' #Salaar for all 3 Shows, This is first time in History an Established Hindi Cinema Star has Faced this type of Humiliation, Rey @iamsrk, Lottery Expired."

Dunki vs Salaar box office tiff

Some single-screen theatres, such as INOX Dadar, Plaza Dadar, Mukta A2 New Excelsior, Maratha Mandir, Miraj Thakur Kandivali, Movietime Dahisar, Gold Thane, Anand Thane, Cinepolis Regent Patna, and PVR Rivoli Delhi, which showcased Dunki on Thursday, have now chosen Salaar for Friday screenings.

Earlier, reports suggested that foul play was being applied in the northern belt, not letting Salaar have enough screens as it was closing with Dunki. Reportedly, Salaar was also denied equal screen sharing, which resulted in the makers withdrawing the movie from PVR INOX and Miraj Cinema.

However, PVR issued a clarification in a statement and stated, "We have come across some speculative media reports about the film SALAAR and its release at PVR INOX Cinemas. We would like to clarify that these reports are incorrect, SALAAR is one of the most anticipated films of the year and it's releasing across pan India PVR INOX cinemas on the scheduled release date i.e., 22 December 2023."

Well, now that Maratha Mandir is replacing Dunki shows, fans think that it is an embarrassing situation for a superstar like Shah Rukh Khan. One said, "The film industry is super unpredictable. Till yesterday, we had rumours of Salaar not getting enough theatres in the North, and today it's the opposite," said another user.

Talking about Dunki's story, the film not only delves into the themes of love and friendship but also portrays the experiences of NRIs living abroad who miss their homeland. For the unversed, Maratha Mandir's longest-running film is SRK's 1995 film DDLJ.
