Vir Das Wins Emmy Awards: In a historic moment for India, Vir Das, the acclaimed comedian, and actor, added another feather to his cap as he clinched the International Emmy for Comedy at the prestigious International Emmy Awards 2023.

VIR DAS WINS EMMY FOR BEST COMEDY

The 51st International Emmy Awards took place in New York on Monday (November 20), (November 21 in India), where Vir Das secured the coveted award for his Netflix comedy special, 'Vir Das: Landing.' This marks Vir's second International Emmy nomination and a significant milestone in his career. Also, Vir Das has become the first Indian comedian to achieve this remarkable feat.

The official International Emmy Awards X handle, broke the news and wrote, "We have a tie! The International Emmy for Comedy goes to Vir Das: Landing produced by Weirdass Comedy/ Rotten Science/ Netflix." Other contenders in the category included 'El Encargado' from Argentina and the French show 'Le Flambeau' season two.

VIR DAS EXPRESSES GRATITUDE ON RECEIVING THE PRESTIGIOUS EMMY AWARD

Expressing his elation on receiving the prestigious award, Vir Das stated, "I have immense gratitude, holding the International Emmy for Best Comedy for 'Vir Das:Landing.' This one is for my team and for Netflix without whom this wouldn't have been possible. This journey has been nothing short of extraordinary, and to win this accolade for my fifth special with Netflix feels like a culmination of passion, perseverance, and the undying support of people around the globe who have given so much love to "Vir Das:Landing".

He added, "This award is not just a recognition of my work but a celebration of the diverse stories and voices from India. Stories that make us laugh, reflect, and, most importantly, unite. This one is for India, for indian comedy and for the community of artists at large."

Earlier, Vir Das took to Twitter, and shared a picture of himself holding the trophy and wrote, "For India. For Indian Comedy. Every breath, every word. Thank you to the @iemmys for this incredible honor."

Meanwhile, Vir Das who has featured in movies including Go Goa Gone and Delhi Belly, clinched the accolade for his fourth Netflix special. His earlier stand-up special, Vir Das: For India, garnered a nomination for the Best Comedy category at the 2021 International Emmy Awards.
