Actor Sajid Khan, who played the younger version of Sunil Dutt's Birju in Mehboob Khan's "Mother India" and later rose to prominence with international projects such as "Maya" and "The Singing Filipina", has died following a battle with cancer. Khan was in his early 70s. "He had been battling cancer for a while. He passed away on Friday (December 22)," the actor's only son Sameer told PTI. According to Sameer, his father had settled in Kerala with his second wife. "My father was adopted by Rajkumar Pitamber Rana and Sunita Pitamber and fostered by filmmaker Mehboob Khan. He was not active in films for a while and was mostly involved in philanthropy. He used to come to Kerala quite often and he liked it here, remarried and settled here," Sameer added. The actor was laid to rest at the Kayamkulam Town Juma Masjid in Kerala's Alappuzha district.

Despite this, the film's advance booking has surpassed Rs 1 crore, indicating significant anticipation and excitement among the audience.

Manjot Singh, renowned for his performances in movies like Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! and Fukrey, shared insights into being considered for a role in Ranbir Kapoor's Animal. In an exclusive discussion with IndiaToday.In, the actor delved into the details of the character and the factors influencing his decision to not join the acclaimed film. Talking about his character in the film, Manjot said, “I went to meet Sandeep Reddy Vanga and there he briefed me about the character. The role was of one of Ranbir’s cousins whom he meets when he visits his pind (village) in Punjab. The name of the character in the film was also Manjot. Uss time par (At that point in time) I did not have much idea about the character. All I was told then that his name is same as mine.” He added, “The character was really well written when briefed to me and he had a good graph. Then I had a discussion with Sandeep sir where I told him about my filmography and that I am a big fan of his work. I had watched ‘Kabir Singh’ thrice and asked him whether I should do ‘Animal’ or not. I was ready to do the movie just for the sake of my respect for Sandeep sir. But, he told me ‘role itna amazing nahi hai (the role is not that amazing) that people will remember. So it’s okay, we shall collaborate again in the future.”

As Ranbir Kapoor continues to win hearts with his performance in Animal, his father in law Mahesh Bhatt also lauded his performance.
