Independence Day 2023 | Gadar 2 To Jailer: Big Releases To Rule The Box Office This Weekend

The 77th Independence Day is around the corner and the entire nation is gearing up to celebrate the special occasion in their way. From Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisting the national flag at Red Fort in Delhi to several cultural programmes being organised across the nation, India is looking forward to celebrating 77 years of independence with a lot of zeal and enthusiasm.

Interestingly, Bollywood industry will also be celebrating the special day in their way. Just like every day, the Independence day weekend is a hot spot for filmmakers for film releases and this weekend is going to be a treat for the moviebuffs with several big films heading for a release.

Here is the list of movies releasing around Independence Day

Gadar 2

Remember Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel starrer Gadar which won hearts across the world in 2001? Well, the duo has reunited once again to recreate the magic of Tara Singh (played by Sunny Deol) and Sakina (played by Ameesha Patel) after two decades for Gadar 2. Helmed by Anil Sharma, Gadar 2 is said to taking forward the same story, however, Tara Singh will be seen fighting for his son Jeete (played by Utkarsh Sharma). While the trailer and the songs have left the nation divided so far, it will be interesting to see if Gadar 2 will be able to recreate the magic of Gadar once again at the box office. Gadar 2 is releasing on August 11 and will be witnessing a box office clash with Akshay Kumar's OMG 2.

OMG 2

Starring Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam in the lead, OMG 2 happens to be the much awaited sequel of the 2012 release OMG - Oh My God! The movie is said to be revolving around homophobia and the importance of sex education among children. OMG 2 features Akshay Kumar playing the role of messenger of Lord Shiva, Pankaj Tripathi as an ardent Shiv Bhakt and Yami will be seen playing the role of a lawyer. The trailer of OMG 2 has opened to rave reviews from the audience and it will be interesting to see it will fare at the box office. To note, OMG 2 will be witnessing a box office clash with Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel starrer Gadar 2.

Bhola Shankar

Helmed by Meher Ramesh, Bhola Shankar, starring Chiranjeevi, Tamannaah Bhatia, Keerthy Suresh and Sushanth is the official Telugu remake of Tamil film Vedalam. The movie is set to revolve around a former gangster (played by Chiranjeevi) who is on a mission to hunt down the gang responsible for the death of his adopted sister Mahalaxmi's (played by Keerthy Suresh) family. The trailer has left the fans excited and fans are waiting for the film with bated breath. Bhola Shankar is set to release on August 11.

Jailer

The Independence Day celebrations have started on a high note with the release of Rajinikanth starrer Jailer on August 10. Also starring Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, Kannada actor Shivaraj Kumar, Jackie Shroff, Ramya Krishnan, Sunil, Vinayakan, Naga Babu, Yogi Babu etc, Jailer is a black action comedy which is helmed by Nelson Dilipkumar and is releasing in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi and Telugu. The movie will feature Rajinikanth in the titular role of a jailer and how he will stop a gang from rescuing their leader from the prison

Taali

Sushmita Sen, who is known for giving stupendous performances, is coming up with yet another awe-inspiring movie this Independence Day. Titled as Taali, the movie is transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant who is known to be the voice of the community. Helmed by Ravi Jadhav, Taali will focus on the struggles faced by Sawant during the fight to get transgenders recognised as the third gender and get the 'swabhimaan, sammaan and swatantrata'. Taali will be releasing on August 15
