Karan Johar Reveals He Left Shah Rukh Khan Stunned As He Asked Him To Unbutton His Shirt In First Meeting

Karan Johar On SRK: The iconic friendship between Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar has always been a topic of discussion in the entertainment industry. Recently, the filmmaker made a candid revelation as he shared an amusing anecdote from their initial encounter that left SRK stunned.

Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan's camaraderie dates back to the time when Shah Rukh Khan was shooting for the timeless classic Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, where Karan Johar worked as an assistant to director Aditya Chopra. During a candid conversation with fashion designer Prabal Gurung, Karan Johar recounted the unforgettable episode of their first meeting.

He said, "I remember my first meeting with Shah Rukh Khan. It was crazy because I remember I was an assistant for DDLJ. I told him, 'Oh, you know you're wearing Wrangler jeans. You should wear Levi's jeans. They'll just fit you better. He was stunned. I didn't know what gave me that entitlement I had. And I said, 'Oh you have an Adam's apple, you must open your shirt 2-3 buttons.'"

KJO humorously disclosed, "He just kept nodding, and then he said, 'Will you give me a moment, can you call Adi in?'"

The filmmaker further added, "I went outside, and he said, 'Yeh kaun hai? kahan se aaye? Aur yeh mere Adam's apple ke baare mein kyun baat kar raha hai?' So Adi told him, 'He's a townie, they all talk like this.' I was being very genuine. Eventually Shah Rukh started finding amusement in all these things that I was saying and he was like, 'What do you want to do?' I was like, 'I want to be a designer.'"

Karan Johar further praised Shah Rukh Khan and Aditya Chopra, saying that he owes his career as a filmmaker to them. He further stated that both Shah Rukh and Aditya were incredibly supportive and encouraging towards him right from the beginning. They never criticized him for his lack of experience. Instead, they gave him the opportunity to succeed.
